Sunny Sunday Morning…

I went down to Camberwell Market this morning. I’ve not been for years and it has grown since I was there last. There was probably 50% quality items there and the other 50% is the same overpriced rubbish you can get anywhere. As I’m moving house (urghh…) in a few weeks I refrained from picking anything up (except a minature skateboard for $5, I’m still not sure why), but took photos of some stuff I liked. I must say though, I do prefer op-shops, the hunt is more authentic and the prices invariably better – the guy initially tried to charge me $15 for the mini skateboard! I laughed at him. Goose.

You’ll have to excuse my shadowy photos, I’m always too shy to ask people if I can take photos, so I have to pretend I’m texting while I take the photo, which I’m sure makes me appear twice as dodgy… but until I conquer my shyness, you’ll just have to deal with the inferior quality of my images. Sorry.

Jesus, Mary and a telephone. Glorious morning autumn sun. Beads beads beads! Old dolls and magazines. Swatch watches! There’s even a pop swatch there (the big pink one) and my cousin Tanya actually owned one identical to the green one beside it… Parker Lewis anyone? Creepy Dolls – yep, I have a weird thing for creepy dolls, note the small one on the very right. Home made Bambi. Striped tops are in! Gorgeous Knits that remind me of Nanna. Swap cards, the one things I wish I still had from when I was a kid, but I notice you can get them here.

Old Cook Books

I love old cook books. The colours of the images and the (lack of) presentation in the food. It reminds me of a simpler time… when my Mum spent entire days in the kitchen and the only bread we ate was home made.

We’ve had a glimpse of summer! Well, a couple of lovely sunny days anyway. Finally. It is February after all. I’ve had a week off work to send my little one off to her first week of school. I had planned on getting so much done, but with the perfect excuse of being pregnant I’m afraid to say that I have been very lazy and done nothing but the bare minimum. But it has been oh so lovely…

From the top: First day of school, hanging out the washing, lazy holiday lunches and crappy daytime TV.

On Monday night I baked my first ever quiche from scratch! The base was a bit dry, but for a first effort I think it was pretty good. At 31 I’m finally entering the ‘home-maker’ stage of my life and I think I like it. This is the perfect place to start on your journey to becoming domestic goddess!

Old Record Covers

One of my favourite things to do when I have very little money, is to go op-shopping for old records… not the music, but their covers give me endless inspiration, not to mention entertainment. Most suburban op-shops sell records for 50c to a dollar… It’s easy to spend hours browsing at all the gorgeous (and not so gorgeous) covers. Some of my fave’s…

Friday-itis…

At the moment I am developing a dress-up doll product… a much more modern take on the old paper dolls. It’s a fun project and  I’m looking to a lot of catwalk and high fashion for ideas. I’m having great fun using my long-dormant fashion illustration skills! (Luckily I’m not as rusty as I thought I might be!) I’ll post some drawings when they’re a bit more finalised. Meanwhile, with a bad case of Friday-itis yesterday I took some shots of my work-station…
